Creating image ads

To create image ads, go to the Campaigns section of Criteo Management Center, select "Ads", and then click "Create ad" in the top right corner of the overview dashboard.

Name your new image ad and assign it to an ad set. You can also add a description.

Under ad type, select “Supplied”, and under ad format, select “Image ad”.

Upload your assets

After selecting the image ad format, drag and drop your files into the "Design" box.

We’ll recommend some ad sizes for your ad set. These sizes are ranked by their predicted number of impressions. Upload images that fit these sizes and they will be automatically matched to each ad size.  

Specifications:

Use .jpg or .png files
The file size shouldn’t exceed 500 KB
For .gif files, keep the length under 30 seconds

Automatically generate more sizes

You can generate more sizes with our image generation tool to increase your campaign’s reach and performance.

Criteo’s image generation tool lets you reach 90% of Criteo’s image inventory with four core display sizes (320x50, 300x250, 728x90, and 300x600). This has been shown to lead to a 14% increase in conversion volume and a 30% higher return on ad spend.

How does it work? We’ll automatically add padding to fit more sizes, and render your logo in the best possible way. You can review and approve each of these new sizes.   

Landing page

Once you’ve uploaded your images, you can add a landing page URL for your ads. Pick a landing page that matches your campaign objective. This landing page should be part of your website or app domain.

Click tracking
If you’d like to add specific click tracking to this image ad, we recommend removing the generic tracking you may have set up on your campaign. This will avoid double tracking. Removing ad tracking will impact all the ad sets running on that campaign.

Scheduling image ads

You can choose the start and end time for your ad. Select your time zone, start date and start time. You can also schedule an end date if you want the ad to stop delivering at a specific time.

Best practices for designing image ads

If you need guidance on how to design your image ads, we have a few tips:

Keep your brand front and center
Get attention: Use images or text that are eye-catching
Stand out: If your background is black, white, or transparent, add a visible border of a contrasting color
Use a clear and simple Call-to-Action: Make sure customers know what will happen when they click your ads

Updating image ads

To edit your image ads, click on the ad tab in the Campaigns section. You can view the available actions on a specific ad. From there, you can duplicate the ad and modify it before publishing the updated version.

Image ads approval Your image ads need to be approved before we display them in our inventory. This process may take up to 24 hours.

While the image ads are awaiting approval, you will see the status "Waiting for approval" in the overview dashboard. The start and end dates for image ads awaiting approval will appear as "Pending". Once the image ads have been approved, the start and end date will be displayed correctly.
