How to edit an app retargeting ad set?

Launching your app retargeting ad set isn't the end of the process; you'll likely want to update your audience, adjust targeting, swap in a new tracking URL, or change your budget as your campaign runs.

How to access the edit panels?

  1. In Commerce Growth, go to Campaigns and click the Ad sets tab.

  2. Find the ad set you want to update.

  3. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) at the end of that ad set's row.

  4. Select the setting you want to edit:

    • Name, bid, budget, schedule: name, cost control, delivery period, and budget

    • Audience: audience type and selection

    • Display targeting: device and environment settings

    • Ads tracking: click tracking, MMP tracking URL, and impression tracking

Each option opens a focused edit panel. Make your changes, then click Save changes (or Save and apply for tracking).

Edit name, bid, budget, and schedule

This panel gives you control over most of your ad set's operational settings. You can change the following settings:

  • Ad set name: update it anytime

  • Objective: switch between Visits, Conversions, or Revenue

  • Cost control: update your bid strategy and target value

  • Frequency capping: adjust how often the same person sees your ad

  • Delivery period: extend your end date, add an end date, or change your launch date

  • Budget strategy: update delivery pacing, renewal period, or daily budget

Edit your audience

  1. Open the Audience edit panel.

  2. Under Audience type, you can switch between Retargeting and Customizable.

    • Switch to Retargeting: select or search for an existing retargeting audience in the dropdown or click Create new audience to build one.

    • Switching to Customizable will trigger a warning: "Ensure your audience is composed of app users. Campaigns targeting non-app audiences will not deliver impressions." Before saving, confirm your audience contains only users who have your app installed.

  3. Select your audience and click Save changes.

Edit display targeting

  1. Open the Display targeting edit panel.

  2. Under Device, you'll see Tablet and Mobile as options.

  3. Under Environment, choose where your ads appear:

    Option

    What it means

    Web and app (Recommended)

Reach users on websites and inside mobile apps

    Web only

    Reach users on websites only

    App only

Reach users inside mobile apps only

  4. Optionally update Target by location, Topic targeting, or Placement targeting.

  5. Click Save changes.

Edit ads tracking

  1. Open the Ads tracking edit panel.

  2. Under Click tracking parameters, you can update your:

    • URL suffix: appended to your default ad URL (useful for UTM parameters)

    • URL prefix: added before your ad URL

    • Advanced click settings: expand to access additional click tracking options

  3. Under MMP tracking, update your MMP server-to-server click tracking URL if needed: for example, if your MMP regenerated the link or you want to switch to a pre-populated URL format.

  4. Under Impression tracking parameters, add or update your impression pixel if your MMP requires it.

  5. On the right side of the panel, the Tracking preview shows how your tracking URLs will look once macros are filled in, a useful way to double-check before saving.

  6. Click Save and apply. Changes take effect on new ad deliveries going forward.

Troubleshooting after edits

Audience change not reflected in delivery

Allow a short delay after saving; audience updates are applied to new auctions, not retroactively. If delivery is significantly lower than before, review whether your new audience is large enough or contains app users only.

MMP data gaps after updating tracking URL

If you updated your MMP tracking URL, check your MMP dashboard 24–48 hours later to confirm it is receiving data. Common issues are missing macros or using an install URL instead of a retargeting URL.

Campaign paused after editing

Editing doesn't pause your ad set. If it's paused, check the off/on toggle in the Ad sets tab and confirm your budget hasn't been fully spent.
