Lookalike Segment

Criteo Lookalike segments help you reach new customers whose browsing and purchasing behavior resembles a seed audience you provide. Use this segment to find new customers similar to those that you define as most valuable to your business, based on your unique needs.  

This flexibility and control ensure you reach a precise, focused audience of new people. You can experiment with different seed audiences to understand how well you’re reaching your different target audiences.

To create a Lookalike segment you need an existing source audience. The source segment can be attributed to any other segments available under the Customizable umbrella:

  • In-Market - Criteo data

  • Behavioral - Criteo data

  • Lookalike - Criteo data

  • Location - Criteo data

  • Customer Profile - your data

  • Events - Advertiser your data

Here are two examples of how you can use the Lookalike segment:

  • If you are an advertiser who knows your top customers, you can pass Criteo a file via your CRM, CDP or using direct email upload. Criteo can find people similar to the list. You can then target new users you think would be of high-value.

  • If you are an advertiser who has a list of users who are interested in a specific segment of your business, Criteo can use this to find people who have similar shopping profiles and interests. For example, a real estate company wants to find more people interested in home buying, or home selling.

How to set up a Lookalike segment

To set up a Lookalike segment, follow these steps:

  1. From your Commerce Growth home page, open the navigation bar on the left and select Assets > Audiences.

  2. Open the Segment tab, and select Create segment.

  3. Next, in the Choose a segment type window that opens, select Lookalike. The New lookalike segment window opens.

  4. Enter a segment name and use the dropdown to choose a segment to build your lookalike from. The segment you choose is where Criteo grabs attributes and characteristics from.

  5. Now, scroll down and select a size for your segment. Criteo will automatically suggest a size that you can adjust to be more specific or broad.

  6. Hit Save. Your Lookalike segment is ready. To use this lookalike segment, make sure you activate it under a Customizable audience.
